we should call it many things - premiered March 19, 2009, University Settlement, NYC
“finely wrought, sensual phrase-work”
-Claudia La Rocco, The New York Times
we should call it many things is a sextet that explores the contrast between subtle and dramatic movement palettes. The dancers tangle gently, supporting, lifting, abandoning, and returning to one another. The piece was created in close collaboration with composer Emily Scott who composed a set of repetitive “rounds” in the tradition of the American folk song. The dancers create their own sound score by singing Scott’s rounds live during performance.
